Difference between Soft Foam & Memory Foam upholstery and strategic tips

The care towards comfort and ergonomics has always been one of our leading principles

Our daily focus and mission revolve around the concept of comfort applied to ergonomics and innovation. The commitment to producing sought after products in terms of elegance and style, capable of meeting every need, is always accompanied by the objective of ensuring the best possible performance.
The experience connected to the use of a Tecnodent product must be able to offer at all times a high level of comfort.

This objective, that at first glance may seem obvious, requires the evaluation of a series of different aspects, starting with the preliminary questions to be asked when choosing which product to buy: who are the final users and what is the strategy to ensure them the highest possible comfort?

Taking into account the above, deciding on whether it’s prioritized the comfort for patients or operators will have a different impact on the fluidity and continuity of the treatment and, consequently, on the postural ergonomics of the operators involved.

In this regard, Technodent Dental prides itself with a long-standing experience in the production of a wide range of upholstery, available in Standard Foam, Memory Foam and Soft Foam.
What are the characteristics of Memory Foam upholstery?

How often have you heard the term Memory Foam associated with the concept of softness? In reality, its characteristics depend on its density and can also be the exact opposite.

As the upholstery in Memory Foam Tecnodent is printed with high density material, at first contact the feeling is of greater stiffness, due to the material’s ability to resist external pressure.
This kind of upholstery made from polyurethane Memory foam, is printed directly by Tecnodent, and is characterized by the absence of seams and a limited thickness.

When the patient is seated in the chair, and with the increase of temperature connected to body temperature, Memory Foam gradually expands and, thanks to the intrinsic properties of the material which allow for a gradual release of deformation energy and therefore reduced contact pressure, it gradually adapts to the shape of the body.
Said characteristics result in a wrap-around effect for the patient, thus enabling a faster and smoother treatment.
What are the characteristics of Soft Foam upholstery?

Soft Foam upholstery is composed of a layer of Tecnodent standard foam on which two layers of low density (Soft Foam) Memory Foam are applied. The whole is then covered with synthetic leather and hand stitched.
The first layer of Tecnodent standard foam guarantees optimal support, maximising the tangible benefits of low-density Memory Foam by avoiding the risk of the patient coming into contact t with the rigid parts of the upholstery itself.

The low density associated with the greater thickness of the Soft Foam upholstery results in a much higher level of perceived softness compared to Memory Foam.
This is why choosing Soft Foam products means giving the patient not only a tactile sensation, but also a visual impression of maximum comfort thus creating an immediate positive psychological effect. Even the most nervous and worried patients will find the soft shapes of Soft Foam inviting, as they bring to mind cozy and comfortable seating, such as home sofas.
Is it better to choose Memory Foam or Soft Foam?

Which is the best choice between Memory Foam and Soft Foam, then? This question cannot be answered before having clearly defined the criterion for making this assessment.

The nature and duration of the treatment offered by the medical practice, are certainly factors to be considered when choosing the more appropriate types of upholstery. More specifically, a medical practice that performs mainly short treatments (i.e.15-20 minutes per patient) would not be able to fully benefit the upholstery characteristics of Memory Foam, which would not have the necessary time to adapt optimally to the patient’s conformation. Hence, in this case, it would be advisable to choose soft foam upholstery.

Another factor to consider is indeed the priority of comfort related to the treatment field. This allows us to guide the choice by identifying those situations where greater comfort for the patient is strategic and those where it is not particularly relevant and instead the comfort for the operator can be privileged.

Whatever type of upholstery is chosen, clearly all Tecnodent products are the result of constant investments in research and attention to market needs and to users specific requirements. All products are characterized by great care to detail, strict quality control and a continuous dialogue and exchange with the leading specialists in the sector.
